(My rave review of ANORA from last week can be seen at: https://youtu.be/c9B3ZwohejQ) The new movie BLITZ tells the story of a mother and her 9 year old son who are separated during the Nazi bombing of London in World War II. I’m certain it will earn Oscar nominations for cinematography and production design. The film was written and masterfully directed by Steve McQueen who won the Best Picture Oscar for 12 YEARS A SLAVE in 2014. In BLITZ he vividly recreates the devastation of war torn London in 1940. The movie makes you feel the constant peril of terrified people who know they could lose their lives at any moment. The movie stars Irish actor Saoirse Ronan and newcomer Elliot Heffernan as the son whose life she hopes to save. BLITZ is showing just once a day at the Kahala theaters, but starting next Friday, November 22, you’ll only be able to see it on Apple TV +. And that’s a shame because only on a big screen can you fully experience this film’s stunning visual impact.
