The new movie CONCLAVE is a dramatic thriller about the secret process of choosing a new Pope. Many critics have praised it as one of the best films of the year, but I am slightly less enthusiastic. My experience was going to see a highly acclaimed movie and leaving it a little disappointed. To me, CONCLAVE is a good film, but not a great one. The writing is intelligent; the acting is top notch (especially the strong performance of Ralph Fiennes), and the cinematography is creative. But the music and sound effects are far too loud and several scenes are almost too dark to see faces. And yet, overall, CONCAVE is a smart, engaging, and surprising thriller. (In Theaters)
