SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE has been on NBC television for over a thousand episodes. And now a feature film comedy called SATURDAY NIGHT recreates the craziness of the last 90 minutes before the first live broadcast in 1975. “Saturday Night Live” was the first TV show made by and for the first generation that grew up watching television. And this movie effectively captures the lunacy of the evening of that first broadcast when the show’s creator, Lorne Michaels frantically tries to organize his huge cast of dysfunctional comedians, The movie is fast paced and wildly funny, overstuffed with rowdy young characters and non stop jokes. It’s terrific entertainment—especially for people over 60 who got to see some of SNL’s young stars become famous in later years. (Ward Theater only)
