SMITHEREENS is a powerful episode in Season 5 of the Netflix series, BLACK MIRROR. The subject is the nearly universal addiction to electronic devices, especially our phones. Andrew Scott gives a stunning performance as a man who absolutely hates that so many people are looking at their phones when they should be paying attention what’s going on around them. Unlike most Black Mirror stand alone episodes, SMITHEREENS has no science fiction element. It’s only 70 minutes long. I urge you to check it out if you have NETFLIX. If you’re interested in streaming something that strictly for fun, the action comedy-drama that’s called WOLFS is a great choice. George Clooney and Brad Pitt star in an always entertaining, often surprising film about two fixers, men who clean up messy crime scenes to protect their employers from being prosecuted. Much to their exasperation, these two charismatic lone wolfs are forced to work together. And they trade witty insults and funny barbs for the entire film. The shootouts and chase scenes are nicely choreographed. (Apple TV +)
