Search underway for 3 escapees from Hawaii Community Correctional Center
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii Island police are searching for three male escapees from the Hawaii Community Correctional Center Hale Nani Facility in Hilo.
Police say they escaped Friday, Dec. 13, at around 4:30 p.m.
The escapees are (pictured from left):
- Joseph C. Fernandez, age 35, described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, 195 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
- Kawai J. Pomroy, age 41, described as 6 feet 2 inches tall, 260 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
- Clyde T. Loa, age 31, described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, 225 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
All three were last seen at leaving the facility in a stolen gray 2014 Nissan Altima with Hawaii license plate number ZCK261. The vehicle belongs to a civilian facility employee.
Police are currently investigating how the inmates obtained the vehicle keys and escaped.
Loa was in custody for multiple counts of auto theft and resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle. Pomroy was in custody for abuse of a household or family member. Fernandez was in custody for probation revocation for a firearms violation.
