Trump supporters celebrate win in Ewa Beach
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - At Shiro’s Saimin Haven in Ewa Beach, there’s no shortage of Donald Trump supporters happy about Tuesday’s election including Helena and Jose Carrancho.
“I’m so happy, praise God. I’m really happy things are going to change to make America great again,” said Helena Carrancho.
A mini chicken katsu plate is $11 dollars and regular plates are up to $18. Voters told us they picked Trump because of the economy, cost of living and immigration.
“Biden them took it all downhill. I’m a retiree so it hurts. Plus we live in Hawaii,” said Francis Tabar who supported Trump.
Tuesday night at the GOP watch party, Trump supporters celebrated victory while earlier in the night, democrats were clinging to hope.
Democratic Congressman Ed Case easily won reelection to face a republican president, U.S. house and U.S. senate.
He says he talked to people who stood outside in the rain to vote.
“One person in particular told me and it stuck with me which is people don’t come out to wait in the rain to wait four hours to vote if they think everything is okay,” said Case.
“I think that’s a sobering statement and I think all of us elected officials ought to take from this election regardless of who wins,” he added.
Hawaii News Now political analyst Colin Moore says there’s a shift in support for the GOP in working class neighborhoods.
“These are pockets of Republican support really concentrated on the west side, Ewa Beach, but those look like they have become red districts,” said Moore.
“The Republicans had a very good night,” he added.
Back at Shiro’s, a Kamala Harris supporter was too shy to go on camera and others were indifferent saying life goes on regardless of who’s president.
