Scuba dive and help cancer patients through this annual fundraiser event
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - For 12 years, Oahu scuba divers have been on a mission — to raise much needed funds for the American Cancer Society through an annual event.
The initiative, called “Dive for Life,” brings together hundreds of people to find sponsorships and other support and jump in the water for a good cause.
”Over the course of the 12 years we have been doing this, we have raised nearly $100,000 for the American Cancer Society,” said Michele Cooke, Team Lead Coordinator for Oahu Dive for Life.
The event has traditionally taken place at Shark’s Cove on Oahu’s North Shore late summer or early fall. This year, the group is trying to get the word out that Oahu Dive for Life will happen Nov. 2 at Point Panic in town.
”We had to push the event back a little this year in order to partner with the American Cancer Society ‘Making Strides’ breast cancer event, which we were more than happy to do,” added Cooke.
Last year, the funds raised supported research in the realm of pediatric cancer to the tune of nearly $7,000.
Cooke and her team of volunteers are hoping for record turnout this year.
