HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Saturday marks an important occasion for the Hawaii Foodbank and the tens of thousands of families it serves.

The annual Food Drive Day is an effort to raise money and awareness about food insecurity across the state.

This year’s theme is “Nourish Our Ohana.”

”We know that one in three Hawaii families is struggling to put food on the table and that is something we have to work to address,” said Danny Schlag, Marketing and Communications Director for Hawaii Foodbank.

This year, a long-time partner of the Hawaii Foodbank is stepping up in a big way.

First Hawaiian Bank is offering a special $50,000 Food Drive Day Match Opportunity & Sweepstakes to help the Foodbank and its partners distribute more healthy meals to households facing hunger.

Volunteers will be posted at the following locations on Oahu accepting monetary and food donations:

  • Ka Makana Ali’i
  • Pearl City Shopping Center
  • Town Center of Mililani
  • Waiokeola Congregational Church
  • Waterfront Plaza
  • Windward City Shopping Center

If you’d like to volunteer for this year’s food drive, you can still sign up here.

If you aren’t able to participate, you can always donate online at www.hawaiifoodbank.org/donate.
