First Alert Forecast: HUGE surf expected on Sunday
Dangerous for the experience, life-threatening for the unexperienced
The Eddie Big Wave Invitational is under a “Green Alert” for Sunday, Dec. 22.
SPECIAL SECTION: “The Eddie”
The competition is expected to run as HUGE surf is set to arrive on north and west-facing shores, but the final call will come on Sunday morning at daybreak. On both NORTH and WEST shorelines, people need to be high up on the DRY sand when viewing the waves.
DO NOT attempt to go into the water unless you are a professional; check with lifeguards first.
A HIGH SURF WARNING is up for the north and west-facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, and Molokai. This high surf warning also includes the northern-facing shores of Maui and the Kona coast of Hawaii Island.
These warnings will last until 6 PM on Sunday but could be extended further in time. Wave heights on north-facing shores could build up to 30 to 40 feet on Saturday and 40 to 50 feet on Sunday.
Stable and mostly dry conditions, accompanied by light winds, will prevail through tomorrow. Trade winds will return tomorrow night, bringing a few windward showers, with winds expected to ease slightly and veer to the east-southeast later in the week.
