HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A flipped semi-truck shut down multiple lanes on Nimitz Highway near Sand Island Monday morning.

Emergency crews responded to the mess around 7:45 a.m.

Photos from the scene show the truck’s load of metal scraps piled on the roadway.

Officials said the driver of the semi-truck was not injured and was able to extricate himself from the vehicle.

The left turn lane on Sand Island Access Road, and two eastbound lanes on Nimitz Highway were shut down for several hours.

This is the second time in less than a week a semi-truck flipped on Nimitz.

It’s not known what caused the truck to lose control in this incident.
