HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Have you seen these new signs around Chinatown?

Approximately 40 signs alert drivers and pedestrians about new security cameras that have been or are being installed across the Chinatown district.

The new, high-tech, high-resolution cameras have a 360-degree view, can track movement, and are equipped with LED lights and sirens.

The city said HPD can make announcements through a speaker system, and the digital recording is stored for 30 days.

More than half of the city’s 60 new security cameras have already been installed, with the remainder scheduled to be installed before the end of the calendar year.

The city said they’re a big improvement over the old analog system installed more than 25 years ago.
