HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A local baker is putting a creative spin on traditional Filipino sweet bread known as ‘ensaymada’.

Ensaymada started in Spain as a simple, sweet-spiral dough pastry, and when it came to the Philippines, it evolved with butter and cheese on top.

Wife and husband Monaliza " Liz" and John Ramos, originally from Alaska, along with children Nathan and Cailin, joined HNN’s Sunrise to talk about their pop-up baking business Princess Liz Creations, which makes ensaymada with unique flavors like Oreo, Cookie Butter, Ube, Salted Caramel, Coffee, Banana and Almonds.

Their signature brioche is handcrafted with high quality organic ingredients, without preservatives and artificial flavors.

Princess Liz Creations was established in 2020 during the heart of the pandemic in Anchorage, Alaska.

“During the lockdown, my family was craving snacks, which inspired me to start baking ensaymada. After numerous trials, I finally perfected the recipe, and that’s how Princess Liz Creations was born. We moved to Hawaii back in 2021 and began sharing our ensaymada at various pop-up night markets,” Liz Ramos said.

You can usually find Princess Liz Creations at Waikele Center for the What the Truck event every first Friday of the month or at Wai Kai on select Thursdays. They plan to be at the Nordstrom Ala Moana on December 28th.
