HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Eddie Big Wave Invitational is under a “Green Alert” for Sunday, December 22nd. The competition is expected to run as HUGE surf is set to arrive on north and west-facing shores, but the final call will come on Sunday morning at daybreak.

A HIGH SURF WARNING is up for the north and west-facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, and Molokai. This high surf warning also includes the northern-facing shores of Maui and the Kona coast of Hawaii Island.

These warnings will last until 6 PM on Sunday but could be extended further in time. Wave heights on north-facing shores could build up to 25 to 35 feet.

We are expecting mostly dry and stable conditions statewide. Light winds will continue throughout the weekend. Winds will pick up in strength on Sunday afternoon and evening, becoming breezy trades by Monday. A few windward showers are possible during the first half of the week.
