High surf warning remains in effect as waves to 50 feet remain possible overnight for north shores
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The National Weather Service says a High Surf Warning will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Monday for north and west shores of most islands as a massive northwest swell peaks in neight.
The warning is effect for the north and west shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai, the north shores of Maui and the west shores of Hawaii Island.
Surf is expected to remain at 40 to 50 feet for most north shores through the evening and then lower to 25 to 35 feet by daybreak Monday.
West shore waves will continue at peak heights of 25 to 30 feet overnight before lowering to 18 to 24 feet by daybreak.
Hawaii Island’s west shores could see waves of 8 to 12 feet through the overnight hours before lowering to 7 to 10 feet Monday morning and then 6 to 8 feet in the afternoon.
A High Surf Advisory also remains in effect until 6 a.m. Monday for Hawaii Island’s north shores, with waves of 14 to 18 feet Sunday evening, declining slightly to 12 to 16 feet by morning.

Beachgoers, especially visitors who are unfamiliar with local ocean and coastal conditions, should stay well away from the shoreline, where strong breaking waves could easily knock you off your feet and pull you into the water.
There’s a chance that the warning may be extended into the day Monday, but waves are expected to lower below high surf advisory levels by Tuesday.
