Motorcyclist killed in hit-and-run on Kunia Road

According to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services, the motorcycle hit a pole, and the rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Central Oahu Sunday morning, and police are searching for the driver involved.

It happened just before 9 a.m. on Kunia Road near Kunia Drive.

According to Honolulu police, a pick-up truck was traveling southbound when it hit a motorcycle, causing it to veer of the road into the grassy shoulder where it hit a telephone pole.

Police said the driver of the truck did not stop to render aid or provide information.

According to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services, the motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one else was hurt.

Police said speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash, though it’s not known if drugs or alcohol were involved.

This is the 50th traffic fatality of 2024 as compared to 54 at the same time in 2023.

Kunia Road was closed from Schofield Barracks’ Lyman Gate to Anonui Street as police conducted an investigation and cleared the scene.

The road was fully reopened at around 12:15 p.m.
