First Alert Forecast: Lighter winds are expected over the next several days
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - High pressure is currently over the island chain, leading to light winds and a stable atmosphere. Due to the light winds, clouds will develop each afternoon over interior areas. A few sea breeze showers are also possible each afternoon. However, most of the state will remain dry over the next several days.
We are also monitoring a cold front expected to move across Kauai on Thursday, leading to an increase in rainfall statewide. The front will move over Oahu and Maui County on Friday, dissipating before reaching Hawaii Island. Breezy northeasterly winds are expected behind the cold front.
Surf will also remain elevated throughout this week. After the warning-level swell over the weekend, a series of northwest swells will move in over the next several days.
A northwest swell will arrive tonight and will peak on Tuesday. A second, reinforcing swell will arrive Tuesday into Wednesday, pushing wave heights to just below high surf advisory criteria on north and west-facing shores.
