Lane closures in effect near Laniakea Beach on Oahu’s North Shore
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Lane closures began Monday as the state works to realign Kamehameha Highway near Laniakea Beach on Oahu’s North Shore.
Crews are improving pedestrian safety, shoreline erosion, congestion, and roadway reliability along the highway by shifting approximately 1,000 feet of highway inland.
Single-lane closures will occur between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays along Kamehameha Highway between Lauhulu Stream Bridge and Pohakuloa Way.
The state says construction cannot operate at night due to seabird fallout season and nearby turtle nesting sites.
Crews are reconfiguring the beach parking lot and installing new signs. Parking will be accessible by a right turn off northbound Kamehameha Highway.
Work is expected to run through spring 2026. The state says Laniakea Beach will remain open and accessible throughout construction.
