Chicken Soup for the Soul ~ Devotional Stories for Wives {Review & Giveaway ~ US}

Thank you to Shelton Interactive for providing me with a copy of Chicken Soup for the Soul: Devotional Stories for Wives, free of charge, for review.  These are my own honest opinions.

I think I have found my true love – my soul mate – as far as the Chicken Soup for the Soul series of books goes.  I was just recently sent one of their new books - Chicken Soup for the Soul: Devotional Stories for Wives - and it is one of my absolute favorites!

CSS Devotional Stories for Wives

Being a woman of faith, I really enjoy doing nightly devotionals whether in a devotional book or directly from my Bible.  This books has given my devotionals a different spin.  Each story is prefaced with a scripture and ends with a prayer that is applicable to the story that was shared.  The sections include:

  • Honoring our Commitment
  • The Power of Prayer
  • Learning to Communicate
  • Embracing our Differences
  • Recapturing the Magic
  • Facing our Challenges Together
  • Surrender it All
  • Second Chances
  • A Change in Perspective
  • Together in Strength

Reading these stories from other wives from all walks of life is nothing short of uplifting and encouraging.  My husband and I don’t have a bad marriage by any means, but we certainly are far from perfect.  I was very excited to dive right into the particular stories in “Learning to Communicate”, “Facing our Challenges Together” and “Recapturing the Magic”.  While I am still working my way through this book (I do 1-2 of the devotionals a night before bed), it is something that I really look forward to each night.

Just last week, our sermon in church on Sunday was around the book of James and, in particular, one verse.

“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger.” ~James 1:19

That particular Sunday morning, my husband and I shot one another looks faster than you can imagine.  Just that morning our tempers had flared with one another and we drove to church in silence, each of us boiling at the other.  When this was the topic of the sermon that day, we knew that God had intended us to be there and hear it.  That very night, as I laid down in bed and reached for my Chicken Soup for the Soul: Devotional Stories for Women, I did as I had done every other night.  I opened to a random page and that would be the devotion that I read for that evening.  I about fell over in bed when I saw the scripture prefacing this particular story.

“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger.” ~James 1:19

For the second time in one single day, there was this exact same verse, staring right at me.  I knew this was no accident; as it is said, coincidences are God’s handiwork.  I read through this story with a smile plastered on my face.  When I told my husband about my chances of opening to this story (exactly 1 in 101 chance), he was dumbfounded as well.  This particular story – one that I could relate to all too well – ended with a fabulous prayer.  I have since marked this page and pray this prayer each morning and evening.

“Lord, how often we jump to the wrong conclusion and make a mess of our lives and the lives of those we love.  I pray that you will guard my tongue today so that I might be slow to speak.  Fill me instead with your Holy Spirit and the wisdom that only comes from above.  Amen”.

Regardless of your religion or stance, this is a book that all wives should be able to relate to and would be a fabulous read for yourself or as a gift to another!
